A revamp of Cardiff’s Chapter Arts Centre, new council housing in Bristol and the UIA-HYP Cup international student prize. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

Chapter Capital Alliance has launched a high-profile competition for the £6 million redevelopment of Cardiff ‘s Chapter Arts Centre (pictured). The project follows a doubling of visitors since 2009 when AshSakula completed a £3.8 million revamp (AJ 11.03.10). The winning team will develop plans up to RIBA Stage 2 as part of a feasibility study [Deadline for submissions 1 May]

Bristol City Council is seeking a lead designer for 1,000 new council houses. The new homes will be built on former brownfield sites in the south west of England city over the next 15 years. Two separate lots will cover projects valued above and below £750,000 respectively [Suppliers’ day in Bristol 1 May]

The UIA-HYP Cup international student competition has opened for entries. Chaired by Daniel Libeskind, the competition seeks 4,000m² schemes responding to an ‘unexpected city’ theme. The winner will receive £6,000 and three second place entries will share £3,000 each [Deadline for registration 30 June]
