Swansea Market, Ireland’s Mid-Western Regional Hospital and San Francisco’s Highway 280. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

Swansea Council is seeking an architect-led multi-disciplinary team to overhaul the city’s market. The 1961 market building, designed by Percy Thomas & Son, features a curved 60m-span roof with space below for more than 100 stalls. The 30-month project includes internal refurbishments and a new roof system [Tenders to be returned 26 July]

An architect is sought to deliver a 7,750m² inpatient ward block at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle, Limerick. The four-storey extension will be built above the hospital’s existing emergency department and dialysis wards which will remain open during the work [Expressions of interest by 3 July]

The American Institute of Architectsin San Francisco has launched an ideas contest to imagine the future of spaces beneath Highway 280 following its demolition. Open to architects, artists, planners and designers, the contest has a £6,500 prize with no competition entry fee [Submissions to be made before 31 July]
