A student centre for UCL, a revamp of the Horniman Museum’s galleries and an ideas contest for a transport hub in Miami. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions.
South-east London’s Horniman Museum and Gardens is on the hunt for architects for a £520,000 overhaul of its galleries. The 700m² project will reintroduce daylight to a barrel-vault roof and create a new studio space. Services will be required to RIBA Stage 3 and extended to project completion if a lottery funding application succeeds. [Completed PQQs due 8 April]
University College London is seeking an architect for a new student centre on Gordon Street in Bloomsbury. The winner of the £2 million contract – covering RIBA stages 1 to 7 – will develop the project from concept design through to as-built drawings and support a planning application. [Requests to participate due 11 April]
Miami-based DawnTown has launched an ideas contest for a new transport hub. Students and professionals are invited to submit schemes which focus on personal transport and include a bike rental facility, classroom and electric car charging points. The top three entries will share a £2,700 prize. [Registration closes 12 May]
