Façade designs for Lübeck old town, a new business district in India and transforming two railway arches in south London. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The City of Lübeck has launched an open design contest for the redevelopment of its UNESCO World Heritage-protected founding quarter. Architects are invited to propose ‘sensitive’ and ‘modern’ designs for three typical townhouse facades which will be used during the reconstruction of the former capital of the Hanseatic League [Deadline for requests to participate 14 January]

A leading Indian container port is seeking a masterplanner for a new business district. The project will create a new 277 hectare ‘multi-product special economic zone’ close to the port which has yet to be named. The competition is open to ‘globally reputed and experienced’ architects, masterplanners and engineering design consultants [Deadline for requests to participate 26 August]

Regeneration charity Meanwhile Space is seeking an architect to overhaul two railway arches in Loughborough Junction, south London. The £18,000 project will transform the disused premises into a new facility where the local community can test new business ideas. The winning team will create a series of flexible pod-like structures for meetings, socialising and marketing [Deadline for applications 11 August]
