New York’s Socrates Park, Peabody opens small practices contest and two schools in Northern Ireland. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

Peabody has launched a competition offering small practices the chance to work on new developments, bypassing the OJEU process. A panel of between 12 and 20 practices will be appointed to work on projects below the OJEU threshold. [Submissions due 13 December]

New York’s Socrates Sculpture Park has begun its annual hunt for ‘emerging architects’ for its 2014 studio-in-residency, concluding with an exhibition in May. Large-scale proposals and installations are called for, responding to the theme of the architectural folly. A £3,100 production budget will be open to the winner, along with access to the park’s facilities and workshop. [Submissions due by 7 January]

Northern Ireland’s Western Education and Library Board is looking for architect-led teams to design two new-build schools with a combined budget of £19.6 million. The schools will cater for children with special educational and medical needs between the ages of three and 19 in the Derry area. [PQQs due 9 December]
