The University of Bath, Tyne Theatre in Newcastle and a post-Hurricane Sandy ideas contest. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The University of Bath is looking for one or more architect-led teams for a psychology building and engineering facility on its Claverton Down campus. Winners must provide ‘imaginative and quality design’ while ‘minimising whole life costs’. The 6,000m² psychology building and 8,000m² engineering facility are due to open in September 2015 [Requests to participate to be returned by 25 March]

Tyne Theatre and Opera House Preservation Trust, Newcastle, is seeking a conservation architect for renovation works due to complete in December 2017. The winning team will prepare an RIBA stage D plan, which will progress to RIBA stage L subject to funding [Expressions of interest due 12 April]

MoMA PS1 New York has launched an ideas contest for proposals following Hurricane Sandy. The open contest invites ‘alternative’ housing types, social spaces and works to protect the shoreline. Schemes will be exhibited in VW Dome in April [Video submissions must be received by 15 March]
