A £100 million RIBA contest for Maidenhead, Kaliningrad’s historic centre and an airport noise barrier. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The RIBA has opened a two-stage competition for the £100 million regeneration of Maidenhead town centre (pictured). The contest seeks ‘imaginative’ visions for the masterplanned 19,020m² site set to feature retail, offices, flats and a public plaza. Three shortlisted teams will receive £7,000 to develop designs. [Expressions of interest due 21 February]

The Russian city of Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea has launched a two-stage ideas competition for a 560,000m² city centre site. A £100,000 prize fund is available for the best ‘rational urban’ solutions. Submissions are welcome in English and shortlisted teams will have until 7 November to submit designs. [Deadline for entry is 14 April]

Swedavia, the owner of Bromma Stockholm Airport, is seeking ‘creative solutions’ to reduce ground noise and deliver a ‘positive element’ in the residential area surrounding the Swedish capital’s closest airport. Five teams will be shortlisted and the winner will receive £9,200 and see its designs implemented. [Register by 14 February]
