Redesigning Venice’s housing, a touring structure for Retina Dance Company and the Open up contest. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The Wilmotte Foundation has opened a student ideas contest to re-invent Venice’s water-borne housing. Open to both students and recent graduates, the contest calls for a mix of housing and studio spaces around the island of Saint Elena. The top three entries will share an £11,400 prize fund. [Registration must be completed by 15 May]

The Retina Dance Company, based in Nottingham, is on the hunt for architects and set designers to create a structure for its new touring production, Corporalis. The £4,000 project comes with a £3,000 fee and is open to both students and practitioners. [Submissions should be received by 31 May]

Architecture charity Open-City has launched ‘Open up’, a contest looking for activities to engage children with architecture. Students and professionals are invited to submit proposals for activities based around space, light and materials. The contest is aimed at architects, engineers, young graduates and students. The winners will receive £500 and be considered for a further Arts Council England-supported project. [Ideas must be submitted by 14 May]
