Leicester City Council is seeking a consultant to create a new public realm strategy for its historic Guildhall Cathedral Conservation Area where Richard III’s remains were unearthed in 2012. The £1.1 million initiative will restore the historic townscape and create new public spaces around a Richard III visitor centre opening in July [Deadline for applications 6 May]

Bulgaria’s second biggest city, Plovdiv has launched an open international design competition to redesign its central square. Submissions to the anonymous contest may be in English or Bulgarian and must preserve the square’s archaeological and cultural heritage. The winner will receive £8,400 [Deadline for entries 20 June]

Washington DC’s North of Massachusetts Avenue (NoMa) district has opened an international contest to ‘enliven and activate’ four railroad underpasses. A single design team is sought for the £1 million project to improve critical East-West routes in the area which has seen massive regeneration since the 1990s [Deadline for submissions 9 May]
