Capitol Mall design competition, Sacramento, California

  • Comment

[Registration must be completed by 13 September] The American Institute of Architects and the City of Sacramento have launched an international competition, seeking designs for the Californian city’s main road, Capitol Mall

The top prize is £12,254 and schemes must incorporate existing civic buildings, as well as two light rail lines.

Built in 1911, the thoroughfare is flanked by high rise office blocks and features several underused sites which have the potential for repurposing as gardens or events spaces.

The competition covers the Mall from 3rd to 9th street and is open to both students and professionals.
