Berkeley University opens £9,350 essay contest

San Francisco’s Berkeley University has launched its 2014 student essay contest featuring a £9,350 prize fund

The contest is open to all full time students world wide and is themed this year around ‘The Architect and the Heathful Environment.’ Interested parties must submit a 500 word proposal which will be used to shortlist 25 entrants.

These semi-finalists will then be asked to submit a 2,500 word essay covering this year’s theme. The best five to eight entries will then be selected as finalists and the remaining semi-finalists will be entered into a second contest to win travel scholarships.

All semi-finalists must propose an international research trip related to their essay submission.

A parallel contest will be run for a teaching fellowship which will be open internationally to undergraduate teaching staff. The contest will launch in early 2014.

Submissions may include up to two entrants. Proposals must be uploaded through the contest page no later than 1 November.
