Article 25 launches ideas contest for Haiti’s National Palace

[Expressions of interest must be received by 10 February] Architecture charity Article 25 has launched an ideas contest looking for proposals to replace Haiti’s earthquake-struck National Palace building

The competition seeks a new Haitian presidential residence and office to replace the Port-au-Prince structure which was badly damaged during Haiti’s 2010 earthquake.

The site is surrounded by camps which house displaced local people and the competition looks for designs which meet presidential needs while also offering aid to the camps.

Entrants should submit two A2 panels and a 400-word explanation for each scheme. Entries must be submitted digitally.

Proposals should also consider sanitation, health, distribution of amenities, the tropical climate, the island’s susceptibility to hurricanes and earthquakes as well as the scarcity of resources.
