Architect sought for Swansea Market overhaul

[Tenders to be returned 26 July] Swansea Council is seeking an architect-led multi-disciplinary team to overhaul the city’s market

The 1961 market building, designed by Percy Thomas& Son, features a curved 60m-span roof with space below for more than 100 stalls.

The 30-month project includes internal refurbishments and a new roof system which is expected to include renewable energy sources

Commenting on the scheme’s programme, Swansea Council’s cabinet member for regeneration Nick Bradley said: ‘It’s vital we minimise disruption to the market hall when any works are ongoing.

‘Limiting the impact of the works and maintaining regular contact with market traders will be key to our planning as this proposal moves forward.’

Tenders are to be returned by 26 July. Documents are available from John.lewis4@swansea.gov.uk and andrea.rees@swansea.gov.uk
