£10k student ideas contest launched in Japan

[The deadline for entries is 27 September] Japanese real estate company Shelter has launched an international student ideas competition to design timber structures

The contest, now in its fifteenth year, is open to current undergraduates and postgraduates and has a £10,400 prize fund which will be shared between the top three entries.

The competition focuses on the theme of ‘re-conceiving architecture and time’ and proposals may be for any type or scale of timber building. Kumiko Inui, associate professor at Tokyo’s University of the Arts, will chair the jury panel.

Shortlisted entrants must present their scheme in Tokyo on 24 November. Travel and accommodation will be supplied for one person per shortlisted entry only.

Online registration is available through the contest page. Hard copy submissions will be accepted by post or courier. The deadline for submissions is 27 September.

Text accompanying submissions can be in English or Japanese.
