Competitions: Editor's Pick, 25.10.12

Christchurch reconstruction, Belfast Waterfront Hall and Alne Wood Park burial site. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

Christchurch City Council in New Zealand has launched an international design competition for a new ‘urban village’ in the earthquake-struck city. Three finalists will each receive £10,000 to develop proposals for the final judging stage. Work on site is hoped to commence from December 2013. [Submissions for stage one due by 15 January]

Belfast City Council is on the hunt for a design team to deliver a £25 million exhibition centre at Waterfront Hall. Teams with an ‘evidenced track record’ are sought for the 30-month contract which covers up to RIBA stage D, with advisory and audit services required to stage L. [PQQ to be completed by 15 November]

The RIBA has opened a competition for a £600,000 non-denominational reception building at Alne Wood Park in Warwickshire. Part of a planned new ‘environmentally-friendly’ burial site, the building will be used for commemorative services. Up to four teams will be shortlisted and will receive a £4,000 honorarium to present their proposals. [Registrations close on 15 November 2012]
