Inspiration from Japan

PingMag  is this really nice Japanese design blog which has an architecture section. Take a look at the 'Transmaterial2 ' interview. The link is the 'Recent Articles' column on the right. It's about new materials and technologies such as luminescent gravel, light-distributing curtains and that old chestnut, light-transmitting concrete.

There's also stuff about architecture in Tokyo, transformable shapes, an interview with Atelier Bow-Wow whose site is here  and one with the Tokyo collective Plustic Minustic whose site is here . Other sections include arts and crafts, technology, street art and the charmingly titled 'conscientious design.' A very recent addition is Pingmag MAKE which has an interview format and which focuses on rural and largely unsung Japanese craftsmen. I can see that happening in Blighty.
