It's not just the boys and girls at English Heritage and their fellow travelers who want to preserve anything built a hundred years ago. Recently I reported the new amorphochromatic dye crystal-based Polaroid printer for digital snaps. It was predicated on the February demise of the old, smelly paper-waving Polaroid process.
Now an action group, Save Polaroid, has emerged in the US. Its site has four petitions, it's running parallel campaigns on Facebook and in Japan, it has a catalogue of sob stories from Polaroidees with withdrawal symptoms and much more. If you want to save the world as it once was, you can download an action pack at SavePolaroid. But before you sign up all your friends, just remember this: the two big numbers about Polaroid were: (a) dumb pro photographers who couldn't handle viewfinders could preview a crude printout of what they were about to shoot on film and (b) ordinary guys could take photos of their babes with their shirts off...
