It's not just the boys and girls at English Heritage and their fellow travelers who want to preserve anything built a hundred years ago. Recently I reported the new amorphochromatic dye crystal-based Polaroid printer for digital snaps. It was predicated on the February demise of the old, smelly paper-waving Polaroid process.

Now an action group, Save Polaroid, has emerged in the US. Its site has four petitions, it's running parallel campaigns on Facebook and in Japan, it has a catalogue of sob stories from Polaroidees with withdrawal symptoms and much more. But before you sign up all your friends, just remember this: the two big numbers about Polaroid were: (a) dumb pro photographers who couldn't handle viewfinders could preview a crude printout of what they were about to shoot on film and (b) ordinary guys could take photos of their babes with their shirts off...
