Mimoa has been going for a bit more than a year. It's a tad chaotic but you sense that it's the consequence of its promoters, two young Amsterdam architects, Mieke and Naomi, having new ideas for the site and bolting them on.
No they don't give their surnames. The two explain that the idea of the site came because they were 'never able to find the right addresses of the most recent Modern Architecture when you set out to choose and prepare a city-trip.' Strikes a chord, that.
And, although the site is much more than this, it has around 10 such guides. They include London, Basel and Amsterdam. And there are several generic guides, one on photography, another to European landscapes.
What's really nice is that the blogsters encourage people to contribute guides, to put up their own pet buildings, and to comment. The latter is, of course, the hardest.
But already there are a thousand projects and hundreds and hundreds of design teams, contributors and photographers. And, it's so obvious that nobody seems to have done it on the architectural Web, there's a linked Google map pinpointing every building on the site.
