Two months after its opening, Keith Williams Architects’ Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury is back in the news, but for the wrong reasons
‘We have had tens of thousands of people through the doors since we opened and the vast majority have been full of praise,’ says director Mark Everett. But not everyone is happy. ‘We have had about 400 letters, emails and calls with people complaining about aspects of their experience,’ says Everett.
These include restricted views, a draughty foyer, poor seat numbering, the lack of a central aisle in the stalls, inadequate hand-dryers and a steep upper circle – presumably, not a reference to ticket prices, which are now being discounted in certain seats. ‘I can only ask people to bear with us and we will put right what we can,’ says Everett ominously.
