Bye bye Helter Skelter - Pinnacle to be redesigned

Sad news - the Helter Skelter as we once knew it is officially no more

Sources tells the AJ that KPF’s troubled, spiral-like City of London skyscraper, which won planning in April 2006, will not be resurrected in its approved form.

Progress on the 288m-tall twisting skyscraper ground to a halt 15 months ago amid a legal wrangle with contractors Brookfield Multiplex. Earlier this year Client Pinnacle No1 Ltd admitted it was carrying out a review of the scheme, prompting a number of architects to speculatively float alternatives for the plot close to The Gherkin and Tower 42.

However KPF, which remains firmly on the project, intends to bring the tower back to life in a ‘distinctly non-curvy’ way.

Contrary to some reports, the reworked scheme is not expected to be taller than the consented plans and may, controversially for the City, contain homes.

But don’t expect to see designs any time soon.
