Bungalows, bling, brutalist blues
Off-record and overheard words from the world of architecture
Hey, Bungalow Bill
Astragal had to chuckle when he saw this rather literal entry to the AJ Small Projects Awards by Studio Zeider (pictured above). This 'house for one' - built from ironmongery and wood stain samples and recycled timber - certainly wins the prize for smallest budget (£120), smallest client (two-and-a-half-year-old William), smallest construction team (two), smallest site vehicle (Renault Clio) and smallest floor area (1,600mm x 1,000mm).
Everything was going swimmingly at the unveiling of the T60 Aura, the luxury motor yacht designed by Studio Conran for Sealine – after all, champagne luncheons with Terence and Sebastian Conran are all in a day's work for Astragal. But when Astragal asked to visit the boat's deck, a voice unexpectedly piped up 'only if you wear your bikini' – it was none other than 77-year-old Sir Terence. Erm, I'm not sure anyone wants to see Astragal in a bikini.
