Higher Faugan is a residential extension to a converted farm complex in Newlyn, Cornwall. The two-storey building features a south-facing mono-pitch roof designed to take solar panels and a triple-height north-facing screen. Rooflights collect morning sun to preheat the open-plan living space, which opens out on to a full-width balcony with views across Mounts Bay. The living area is flooded with north light, but protected from late-afternoon sun and north winds by electrically operated hardwood blinds. Ground-floor bedrooms open out on to a sunken garden patio.
