Office for Metropolitan Architecture: V&A Design Studies

The Office for Metropolitan Architecture’s (OMA) recent projects include Casa da Música in Porto, Seattle Central Library and Beijing’s CCTV headquarters. OMA founder Rem Koolhaas won the 2000 Pritzker Prize

This masterplan focuses on the creation of a new east-west axis for the museum and the opening up of historic basements. To accomplish this, bold connections are inserted between Exhibition Road and excavated spaces under the site, extending to the John Madejski Garden’s pond via existing galleries. This axis provides generous, flexible, semi-public spaces with clear orientation and circulation for visitors, and a welcoming new entrance from Exhibition Road.
