Lee Valley White Water Centre by FaulknerBrowns

[London Olympics in the AJBL] Olympic venue for the white water canoeing events that will become home to the British Canoe Unions performance squad and a facility for use by the general public

One of 14 Olympic projects in the Library, the Olympic canoe slalom course is built within the relatively flat Lea River valley. Two artificial white water rapids - a 300m long Olympic competition course and a 160m long intermediate / training course - each have a separate pumping station and start pool and a combined finish pool. The less energy-hungry practice course can be operated independently when the elite course is not required.

The facilities building encloses the changing rooms, boat storage, control and support facilities.

Geothermal ground source heat pumps, whose coils are located under the lake, supply heat to the building. A rainwater-harvesting tank supplies toilet flushing and a solar thermal array with a PV pump provides hot water to changing rooms.

Please contact Tom Ravenscroft to include your project in the Library
