Buro Happold have provided structural design assistance for an ice installation in Alaska

CK – Architecture and artist Lita Alberquerque designed the sculpture which has been designed for outdoor winter exhibition FREEZE. It features in conjunction with a programme of public lectures and other collaborative works using snow, ice and light, on the Delaney Park Strip in Anchorage.

The installation consists of an 25 x 1.1m table filled with oil and water. It was orientated to align with the precise direction of the sun at the moment of the fifty-year anniversary of Alaska’s statehood at one minute past midday on 3 January.

FREEZE is organised and hosted by the Alaska Design Forum in association with the International Gallery of Contemporary Art and the Anchorage Museum and runs until 2 February 2009.

The pictures are presented as a Flickr slideshow. You can click on an image to see the next in the series or select pictures directly using the thumbnail images below. The copyright of each image rests with the photographer.
