Bennetts wins planning for Shaftesbury Theatre fly tower

Bennetts Associates has won planning permission for a new Cor-ten-clad fly tower on London’s Shaftesbury Theatre

Alterations to the Bertie Crewe-designed, Grade II*-listed building will create a ‘contemporary addition to this important West End site’.

The flytower was strengthened in 2002 to increase its’ capacity and has since seen further adaptations to accommodate larger shows at the West End theatre. The proposed extension will increase the flytower’s height and loading capacity eliminating the need for further temporary additions in the future.

A further extension to the west will provide space for additional dressing rooms and office accommodation.
