Back in the day

At the recent Bartlett Summer Show, Astragal inched up to a 50ish-year-old tutor who was holding court to a gentleman of similar age. The tutor, who shall remain nameless, was sweeping his arm round the various exhibits, enthusing to his companion about the merits of his students and their work. But, it seems, things just aren’t as hip as they once were. ‘In our day,’ lamented the tutor, ‘we had people like Eric Parry. Do you remember when he got that magical bus and did that tour round the country? This lot are very good, but they would never dream of doing anything like that.’ Ahh, those were the days.
