Coity Road, Camden, London by Paul Archer Design

[SMALL PROJECTS 2011 - BEST OF THE REST] Internal reconfiguration and two storey extension to a Victorian terraced house

The original building was a typical two bed Victorian terraced house which has been reconfigured and extended over two-storey’s to become a four bed family home.

The extension protudes at an angle to the house which plays with the sight lines. The kitchen has been moved from the basement to the ground floor extension to allow for natural daylight and views into the garden whic has been decked with small terraces to cope with the uneven garden levels. Full height glazing is used to draw in natural daylighting and allow for views.

A concrete retaining wall and steps at the front of the extension provide a sturdy base, whilst an over-hanging band of glazing and slate play with the perception of height.
