Small boat harbour and housing redevelopment, Tolo, Norway

Kvam herad has looked at the stretch between Straumbrua and Tolo small boat harbour in Norheimsund, which is one of the most attractive and future orientated areas for housing development in Kvam. The area was therefore included as a future residential area in the municipal plan’s land use in 2006.

A feasibility study of the area was carried out in 2007 by three different architect companies. The projects point to exciting possibilities for up to 400 houses. The studies show possibilities for development but also for keeping parts of the existing environment, as it is today. The studies from 2007 shall function as ideas and the basis for the further work with the development plan.

The stretch between Straumbru and Tolo small boat harbour currently consists of a mixture of residential houses, shops, boathouses and a small boat harbour. The area is limited to a stretch between Rv 7 and the sea, with a rise of up to 100 metres.

The area is currently divided up into 65 different land and title numbers, with approx. 55 different owners. This structure gives the project a challenge as regards co-operation and legal questions, as there is a relatively large difference in wishes regarding the development and keeping the properties are they currently are.
