What's your favourite public space? - Alicia Pivaro

During my scholarship I have been involved in the masterplanning process for Albert Dock Basin and had the chance to contribute to the development of a new public space initiative, announced by Boris at MIPIM. As part of my thinking around this I have been collecting views about what people think is important about spaces – invariably it is what they do there and how it makes them feel. If you want to take part please would you complete these 2 sentences;

My favourite public space is …

It is great because …

And send them to Alicia.paul@btinternet.com

Here is mine

My favourite place is the square outside my parent’s apartment in Spain. It is great because it is filled throughout the day with different uses – workers having quick morning coffees and cigarettes before they head off to work, then the flow of people heading to the beach, a few old people sitting in the shade, then, after lunch, groups of teenagers sit and chat about stuff, then at 5pm a group of old men appear with tables and chairs to play cards for 2 hours, while people drift off the beach and the square becomes filled with kids of all ages playing while parents watch them from balconies and dinner is prepared.

It is great because it is so simple.
