  • Comment on: Can you design a £50,000 self-build home?

    Alan Gillard's comment 13-Aug-2013 9:12 am

Great scheme and great idea. It brings publicity to the judges the self build association and the winning designer. But if I had £50 for every potential self builder who called and said we like your work and will come back to you when we have found a site - never to hear from them again - I would be able to commission my own self build. The problem is not with the architecture - its with the procurement of land which is in the hands of the big national developers. A sea change is required in the way land is made available through the planning system by local authorities.
