Olympic Water Polo Arena by David Morley Architects
[London Olympics in the AJBL] Temporary 5,000-seat Water Polo venue purpose-built for the 2012 Olympics
One of 14 Olympic projects in the Library, the purpose built arena is prominently positioned opposite the Aquatic Centre at the eastern entrance to the Olympic Park.
The demountable structure is constructed from a kit of parts that can be returned to the supplier. It will host a single event at the Games and following the Olympics will be removed from the site.
The venue, which includes a competition pool, warm-up pool and ancillary accommodation for spectators, athletes, press and VIPs is housed under a sloping roof made from air-inflated recyclable plastic cushions.
