Olympic Stadium by Populous
[London Olympics in the AJBL] Purpose-built 80,000-seat stadium to host the opening and closing ceremonies along with the track and field events for the London 2012 Olympics
Built at the southern end of the Olympic park the compact stadium, which is one of 14 Olympic projects in the Library, sits on a 40-acre site surrounded by water on three sides.
The stadium was been designed to maximize versatility, allowing for a change of use following the games. Above the permanent concrete bowl with 25,000 seats the 55,000-seat upper stands and roof are demountable.
