These eight awards recognise the achievements of practices by region. Chiefly based on the AJ100 employee satisfaction survey, over 700 AJ100 staff were asked a number of questions, including how happy they are in their place of work
North East & Yorkshire
Winner: HLM architects
The clear winner in this category was the Sheffield branch of HLM. Employees praised the practice as being ‘a good employer with good business acumen’. As one worker put it, ‘there is nothing more that another practice can offer that I would need’.
Shortlisted: Purcell Miller Tritton
It’s not often Manchester and Liverpool put aside their differences, but the cities were united in support of Austin-Smith:Lord’s regional offices. One employee commended the practice for its ‘diverse workload and high design standards’.

Winner: Morgan Sindall Professional Services
‘Ambitious and international’ is how one employee characterised the Stratford-upon-Avon office of construction and regeneration group Morgan Sindall. Its current staff felt happy about their prospects and proud of the work they produced.
Winner: HLM architects
Another win for HLM: the Belfast office’s enthusiastic response indicates that there is something about the company’s culture that keeps its staff happy. One respondent said, ‘I feel that the work I put in is appreciated and that in return I am treated well’.
Winner: Page\Park architects
The mood is good in the Glasgow HQ of Page\Park. Staff say that’s because this ‘community of likeminded people’ feels it’s ‘giving the very best we can to our clients’. Or as another staff member put it, ‘Nobody appears to be more successful than ourselves’.

South East & London
Winner: Darling Associates
Darling Associates emerged the clear winner in London and the South East. Staff members praised its ‘Amazing work environment’ and ‘good opportunities to develop’. Would staff like to work elsewhere? No. ‘The team here is fantastic and the work is very exciting’.

Enthusiastic responses from staff at AWW’s Bristol office meant the firm scored the highest among all the practices shortlistedfor regional awards. ‘Supportive colleagues and good management make it easy to maintain a satisfying work/life balance.’

Winner: Scott Brownrigg
Scott Brownrigg’s Cardiff branch may be small – at just 11 – but it is very contented. As one of the respondents put it, the ‘workload is interesting and diverse’ and crucially, the practice ‘looks after its staff’s interests’.
