House in Almondbury, West Yorkshire by Timothy Smith & Jonathan Taylor LLP

[SMALL PROJECTS 2011] Approached by the client to extend an empty bungalow and decided to build upwards instead of a rear extension to give it a strong presence on the street in keeping with its neighbours

The character of the building was altered by lowering the cills of the existing windows, but retaining their horizontal suburban proportions on the front elevation. The rear elevation is a different composition with large black brick pilasters.

The new roof extends the pitch of the existing and retains the overhanging eaves to front and side, and the walls are finished in a pale render.
