AJ Buildings Library: Editor’s Pick, 27.04.11

This week in the AJ Buildings Library: Sir Edwin Lutyens’ Castle Drogo, a PassivHaus in Scotland and the shortlisted 2010 Manser Medal houses

All six of the projects shortlisted for the 2010 RIBA Manser Medal have been added to the Library including Martello Tower Y in Suffolk by Piercy Conner Architects. This conversion of an early 19th-century artillery tower into a three-bedroom family home is one of over a 150 houses now included in the Library.

Five of these homes are certified PassivHaus schemes including the first social housing scheme in the UK to gain accreditation, Tigh-Na-Cladach in Dunoon by Professor Gokay Deveci.

Complimenting these modern houses is a selection of private residences from throughout the twentieth century. Sir Edwin Lutyen’s Castle Drogo is a Grade I listed granite home completed in 1930 following 20 years of construction.

  • To submit your firm’s best projects to the Library please contact AJ Buildings Library editor Tom Ravenscroft.
