Jamie Fobert Architects: V&A Design Studies

Jamie Fobert Architects’ projects include the Centre for Contemporary Culture in Moscow and an international design concept for Givenchy in Paris. Forthcoming projects include the redevelopment of the Charleston Museum in East Sussex

The site is transformed with a gently sculpted set of terraces, which bring the visitor to a new entrance porch inserted into the original rear facade of the V&A. The beauty of this long-hidden facade is enhanced by limiting the new entrance to the most discreet of incisions. The interior presents a vertical volume reminiscent of the V&A’s existing domes and vaults, but one that opens downwards rather than upwards, creating a poetic form that explores the architecture of the museum’s ceilings.
