Heneghan Peng Architects: V&A Design Studies

Heneghan Peng Architects was established in New York City in 1999, and moved to Dublin in 2001. Currently projects include the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre in Northern Ireland, and a footbridge for the London 2012 Olympic Games

Modelled on a series of spherical volumes, this proposal creates a dramatic rotunda space below street level. Circular apertures inserted into the courtyard floor allow generous amounts of daylight into these subterranean spaces. Spiral stairs provide strategic vertical links and flexibility between the various spaces. In addition, an ambitious physical continuation is suggested from the Exhibition Road entrance through to the John Madejski Garden.
