The academy is a cast in-situ, concrete-framed building on piled foundations. The floor slabs are mostly flat, supported by columns and shear walls with downstand beams where required. Some of the larger span floors are precast planks with a structural topping tied into the frame. The roof and sports hall have steel frames, reducing the construction programme and building weight.

A high proportion of the floor slab soffits are exposed to aid thermal stability and minimise ceilings. The majority of the in-situ shear walls are exposed both internally and externally, with an as-struck, fair-faced finish. All of the exposed concrete finishes (other than soffits) have been sealed with a Siloxane sealant to aid weathering and dust control. Some of the external concrete walls contain a layer of insulation between two layers of concrete, providing a concrete finish inside and out. The layers of these walls were sequentially cast in situ.

For the external cladding, exposed concrete is mainly used at ground level for robustness. Above this, the building is clad
in a Schüco stick glazed curtain wall, with over 50 per cent insulated and clad in aluminium rainscreen trays to provide good levels of insulation, distinctive external banding and inclined end facades.
